German-based firm helps Indian SMEs promote products globally

Trade fair company Nurnberg Messe of Germany said it was guiding Indian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to find buyers in the international markets.

“We are paving the path for SMEs… we are engaging with them. Last year, we set up our subsidiary in India with an all Indian staff, who is taking to SMEs in their own language to make them understand the importance of world markets and scale up,” said Peter Ottmann, Managing Director and CEO, Nurnberg.

“The Government of India must encourage SMEs that have a product line up for the global market and give them exposure so that they can benefit enormously. They could be dealing with raw materials, garments or manufacturing space technology. SMEs can join hands to showcase their products to cut cost and get the maximum exposure,” he said.

Elaborating the benefits to SMEs, Claus Rattich, Member of Management Board, Nurnberg Messe, said: “Recently, we promoted an Indian organic cashew nut manufacturing co-operative at a tradeshow in Europe, where visitors from 120 countries participated. The firm could sell the whole year’s production at one trade show. They were so happy to find a global market.”

Meanwhile, Nurnberg Messe has announced plans to invest more in the domestic market to expand its base and organize 10 trade shows here in the next five years.

“We have a 30 million euro corpus, out of which we may invest up to 10 million euro in India in the coming years. This will be in expanding our presence and acquiring Indian trade show companies that are profitable and have a good clientele. Our aim is to make our India subsidiary the second biggest one outside Germany,” Mr. Ottmann said.
