FranchiseIndia (FI): What was your prior occupation? What made you consider social entrepreneurship?

Rahul Jain (RJ): I am an engineer and an MBA with 15 years of experience. Having worked with TATA MOTORS, I started two businesses of my own before founding Business Coaching India.  I started business coaching purely because of my passion in this field. I just love it.

 (FI): What is the start-up story behind Business Coaching India?

(RJ): I had taken a break in 2003, and was looking for starting a business not for earning money but something I would LOVE DOING.  I met a business coach from Australia, who explained the concept of business coaching to me, and I instantly realised that this is what I really love.  In fact, I have been coaching people since college, only I did not know there was a business model around it. He coached me to be a business coach over the next 6 months and I started Business Coaching India in 2004. 

3. (FI): What is your USP?

(RJ): We coach business owners in the SME segment to achieve the following results

• Run their business working one day a week
• Double their profits in 6-8 months

(FI): How did you finance your start-up operations and how long did it take for the company to become self-sustainable?

(RJ): I went for the self-funding route to finance my business. Since I work as an independent coach, it took me a few months to become self-sustainable.

(FI): What inspires you to work for start-ups?

(RJ):  A deep rooted passion to help them transform their business.

(FI): What are the challenges that you have faced in your entrepreneurial journey so far and how have you dealt with them?

(RJ):  The biggest challenge is to get business owners to understand the concept of business coaching.  While coaching is a multi-billion dollar industry internationally, we are the pioneers in this area in India. Since, they are initially apprehensive of the results they will achieve; we give them a money back guarantee.

(FI): What is your growth plan for the coming 3 three years?

(RJ): We plan to at least double our profits every year for the next 3 years. So far, our business has been largely restricted to Delhi, however we are planning to conduct business coaching workshops pan India on a regular basis. . So far we have conducted workshops in Mumbai, Chennai and Calcutta. We are also planning to initiate a 4 month group coaching session on a pan India basis.
