Entrepreneurs left Puducherry because of UPA govt: Rangasamy

Chief Minister N Rangasamy blamed the previous UPA government for a number of entrepreneurs leaving Puducherry and shifting their units to other states as there was no positive response for the territorial government's plea to extend centrally sponsored subsidies and concessions to industrialists, according to a PTI report.

Replying to K Lakshminarayanan (Congress) during question time on job opportunities available to the youths, Rangasamy said the territorial government had made efforts to ensure that various subsidies and concessions available to the industrialists were extended by the previous UPA government.

"But there was no positive response to our requests from the previous Central government" he said, adding, consequently industrialists had shifted their enterprises to other states.

"I have also been persuading the present Central government to ensure that private players were provided concessions and subsidies as were available in the past in Puducherry,” he said.

Raising the issue of "rise in crimes in Puducherry" during zero hour, opposition Congress legislator and former Agriculture Minister A Namassivayam alleged that the Union Territory had been losing its fame as a "peaceful" area as the activities of crimes had been on the rise much to the fear and insecurity of the people.

He said that incidents of chain snatching, burglaries, robberies at gun point in and around Puducherry had come to cause fear among the people.

Deputy Legisalture party leader of AIADMK, A Anbalagan drew the attention of the government during zero hour to the "fake certificates" easily available to candidates to gain admission into professional courses under sports quota or residence and nativity category.

He said that sports that were not in the list of recognised games of the government were also accepted as qualification for admission. Candidates gained admission after submitting the certificates of un-recognised games.
