Karnataka Tourism Gets Rs100 Crore Push as KSTDC Upgrades 24 Hotels
Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation (KSTDC) will invest Rs 100 crore to upgrade 24 hotels and two restaurants across key tourist destinations in the state, Tourism Minister K J George said on Monday.

The programme will focus on improving rooms, bathrooms, food quality, cleanliness, housekeeping, hospitality and other guest facilities, with several properties planned to reach three-star and higher service standards.

The investment will be implemented in phases and is aimed at improving the commercial performance of KSTDC’s Mayura Hotels by using their locations to drive guest satisfaction, occupancy and revenue.

"The biggest strength of KSTDC's Mayura Hotels is their location. We have properties at some of the state's finest tourism destinations and in locations that are difficult to replicate. We now have to match that advantage with better rooms, quality food and professional hospitality," he said, according to a release.

The properties covered under the programme include KSTDC hotels in Hampi, Jog Falls, Nandi Hills, Madikeri and KRS. The planned upgrades will cover guest rooms, bathrooms, restaurants, kitchens, reception areas, common spaces, furniture, lighting, landscaping and other visitor facilities.

The programme will also address operational areas including service quality, cleanliness, food standards, housekeeping and staff hospitality skills. KSTDC will also strengthen online booking systems and structured guest feedback as part of the upgrade.

"Visitors should not have to compromise on quality simply because they are staying at a government-run hotel. Mayura Hotels must set strong standards in location, amenities and service," George said.

KSTDC Chairman M Srinivas said the corporation’s existing brand recognition and destination locations, combined with improved amenities and services, could help increase guest numbers, room occupancy and revenue.

Tourism Secretary Ram Prasath Manohar said the properties would be evaluated individually rather than following a uniform renovation plan.

"Each property will be assessed individually based on its location, visitor demand, current utilisation and revenue potential. Along with infrastructure improvements, we will strengthen service standards, room upkeep, food quality, online booking and guest feedback systems," he said.

The programme positions the Rs 100-crore investment as an operational and infrastructure upgrade across KSTDC’s hospitality portfolio, with the focus extending beyond physical renovations to service standards, booking systems and guest experience.
