Zerodha founders Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath have acquired a 6.72 per cent stake in Viceroy Hotels during the September quarter, according to media reports.
The latest shareholding disclosures show that the investment was made through two separate investment vehicles, Kamath Associates and Nksquared. The move comes as Viceroy Hotels looks to build on its operational recovery following a change in management in 2023.
The investment marks a notable development for Viceroy Hotels, which had entered the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process following years of leveraged expansion under its previous promoter. The company’s creditors were owed more than ₹1,150 crore, while liquidation had at one stage emerged as a possibility and trading in its shares had been suspended.
A key turning point came in October 2023, when the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal approved a resolution plan submitted by Anirudh Agro Farms Limited. Fresh capital was subsequently infused through its subsidiary, Loko Hospitality. Following implementation of the resolution plan, Viceroy Hotels’ shares resumed trading on the NSE and BSE in April 2024.
The company operates Marriott and Courtyard by Marriott properties in Hyderabad. It has also launched a rights issue to raise around ₹105 crore at ₹115 per share. The fund-raising is partly aimed at bringing the company’s public shareholding in line with regulatory requirements, following the increase in promoter holding after the resolution process.
Viceroy Hotels has also started expanding its portfolio. In December 2025, shareholders approved the acquisition of SLN Terminus Hotels and Resorts for ₹206 crore.
The property operates Marriott-branded executive apartments and is expected to give Viceroy Hotels an additional platform for growth beyond its existing assets.
