Flipkart is expanding trials of its food delivery service, Eat-in by Minutes, to more than 8,000 employees as it prepares to enter a market dominated by Zomato and Swiggy, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The Walmart-owned ecommerce company is offering the service through a dedicated tab on its main app. The pilot is currently being tested among employees, whose feedback will help the company assess the service ahead of a wider rollout.
Promotional material shows that employees using the service are being offered benefits, including order discounts and enhanced SuperCoins rewards.
In Bengaluru, Flipkart has also deployed delivery partners wearing Eat-in by Minutes-branded uniforms. According to a TechCrunch report, the company is using a dedicated delivery fleet operated through its logistics arm Ekart, separate from the riders handling orders for its quick commerce service, Flipkart Minutes.
The company began testing Eat-in among employees in Bengaluru before expanding the pilot. Flipkart had confirmed its plans to enter food delivery in July, marking its move into a segment where Zomato and Swiggy remain the leading players.
Flipkart already operates Flipkart Minutes, its quick commerce service for groceries and other products. The proposed food delivery business would add another category to its existing ecommerce operations.
