The launch also signals Aggarwal's growing retail ambitions at a time when luxury shoppers are increasingly moving away from polished, frictionless online shopping in favour of craft-led, tactile experiences.

Delhi-based designer Amit Aggarwal has opened a new flagship store in Kala Ghoda, Mumbai's well-known art and design district. Spread across 6,000 sq. ft. over two levels, the store brings the entire label together in one space for the first time, including womenswear and menswear couture, occasionwear, accessories and AM.IT, the brand's recently revived prêt line.

The store has been designed by architect Niket Deshpande of Thotpot Designs, who worked with, rather than around, the challenges of the site. Housed in a heritage building, the windowless split-level space comes with exposed metal girders, structural projections and irregular angles. Instead of hiding these features, the design makes them part of the story, preserving the building's original character while giving the interiors a fresh interpretation. On the street, the usual display windows have been replaced with sculptural crests inspired by one of the label's signature emblems, giving the store a striking presence amid the historic surroundings.

Inside, Aggarwal's signature experimentation with biomimetic forms, materials and construction takes the shape of concrete, sculptural volumes and carefully controlled lighting. The largely monochrome, brutalist interiors act as a quiet canvas, keeping the focus on the label's distinctive silhouettes, intricate textiles and material innovations.

The centrepiece is a 13-ft suspended pod, a recurring motif in Aggarwal's work that reflects his long-standing fascination with origin, containment and transformation. It anchors the space both visually and conceptually, with the rest of the store arranged around it.

Building on the designer's earlier explorations of space and perception, the flagship aims to offer an immersive experience that invites shoppers to slow down and engage more thoughtfully with the collections. A stepped layout gives each category its own identity while keeping a seamless flow between the two floors.

Speaking about the launch, Aggarwal said Kala Ghoda felt like a natural next step for the brand, given the neighbourhood's long history as a meeting point for fashion, art, design and culture. He added that the flagship offers the scale needed to bring the different expressions of the house together, in a space that reflects where the brand stands today and where it is headed. At the Kala Ghoda flagship, visitors can explore the label's varied offerings as one cohesive, tangible world.
