Innovate to make quality healthcare available to all: Shripad Naik tells industry

Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare Shripad Yesso Naik urged Indian healthcare industry and service providers to work towards newer initiatives and innovative ideas to help government’s endeavor to make affordable healthcare available to all, at the first India Health & Wellness Summit, 2014.

The first edition of the Hero Cycles India Health & Wellness Summit, 2014, being presented by Healthydunia.com, powered by Yes Bank opened with some of the leading names in the Indian healthcare sector coming together to discuss concerns, devise solutions and award excellence in the field of healthcare.

Union Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Shripad Yesso Naik urged Indian industry to partake in government’s endeavor to spread the net of healthcare and improve quality delivery. Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Member, Parliamentary Standing Committee on health and family welfare, also participated in the deliberations.

“I take this opportunity to call upon all private players and organizations present here to partake in this endeavor of the government… We are dedicatedly working to push the reach of hospitals and clinics to far corners of India, so that healthcare does not remain a prerogative of urban and affluent Indians. The concerted effort of the Healthcare Industry and Health professionals can give better and speedier results. It is also important to ensure not only affordable but quality healthcare services are made available to all people, be it in an urban city like Delhi or a smaller place like Bastar,” said Naik.

He said India can leverage its knowledge in traditional alternative systems of medicine like Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, to devise a more holistic approach. “We can more effectively use our traditional systems of medicine in conjugation with modern medicine to device a more holistic approach towards treating diseases. Promoting an inter-disciplinary approach can benefit a large number of people and help position us as a more integrated and comprehensive healthcare provider in the world,” he added.

Dr M C Mishra, Director of AIIMS asked Indian doctors and healthcare providers to develop a conscious approach towards improving trauma response.

“When a patient is brought to a hospital, at least during the Golden Hour we have to look at his physiology, not anatomy. An orthopedic expert should not just be willing to focus on his area of treating bone damage but also be able to look at the overall injuries of the patient. Across specialties, we should develop more trauma specialists,” said Dr Mishra.

The Summit also gave away awards to outstanding achievers in multiple fields of Indian healthcare. The awards were given in 30 categories with the awardees chosen through a rigorous selection process, manned by an eminent jury. The jury included some of the biggest names from the Indian healthcare companies, doctors, scientists, experts, media representatives, government sector and social leaders. Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on health and family welfare, lead the jury.

Leading cardiologist Dr Ashok Seth was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in Medical Care for his outstanding contributions in the field of Cardiology Care in India; and leading cosmetologist Dr Jamuna Pai was awarded for Pioneering Role in Cosmetic Medicine.

“India’s health and wellness sector has been long awaiting a truly comprehensive platform for recognition and salutation of its varied facets through a fierce and peer-driven process. And we believe we have taken the correct first step in filling this void. We hope this initiative by HealthyDunia.com will play an important role in fuelling afresh debate about what needs to be done, generating new ideas, catalyzing innovation and honoring excellence for an industry that is on course to put India on the world map,” says Kamal Narayan Omer, Managing Director, Blue Pen Media, Organiser of the IHW Summit.
