CeBIT set for India debut; plans start-up challenge in Bangalore

A slew of IT exhibitions and company developer conferences are headed to India this year, in a development that is indicative of both the increasing demand for IT services in the country and the burgeoning technology start-up landscape.

The biggest so far is CeBIT—the world’s largest business IT exhibition— which will, for the first time, be held in India in November in Bangalore.

Hannover Milano Fairs India Pvt. Ltd. (HMFI), the Indian subsidiary of Hannover Millano Global, which generally organises CeBIT, has also signed a memorandum of understanding with software product lobby iSPIRT.

"The motivation comes from the conversations we have had with the government and organizations like Nasscom and software product forum iSpirt. Disruption is not happening at the 5,000-employees level, but it's happening in companies with a handful of employees. The idea is to make +91 a qualifying round for Code_n," said Mehul Lanvers-Shah, MD of Hannover Milano Fairs India, the Indian subsidiary of Deutsche Messe that organizes Cebit.

As part of the roadmap to CeBIT India’s November debut, HMFI and iSPIRT will work to showcase India’s software product development capabilities to international buyers.

According to a statement, a curated pavilion of several Indian software companies will also be showcased at CeBIT Germany, 2015.

“These initiatives are also aimed at catalysing venture capital and private equity funding. We believe that CeBIT India is an ideal platform to build both local and global opportunities in product development,” said Andreas Luttmann, General Manager of Hannover Fairs Internaitonal GmbH.

Companies like software product firm Zoho, which is primarily focussed on the US, are also turning their eyes to India. Zoho, according to Chief Evangelist Raju Vegesna, will bring its trademark ‘Zoholics’ user and customer conference to India this year.

Zoholics, which is generally held in the US, will have product workshops and sessions covering industry trends. This year’s edition in Bangalore will also include a ‘product track’, which will look to cultivate the fledgling software product ecosystem in India.
