New norms with respect to awarding government with Information Technology (IT) contracts are likely to come after budget and if IT ministry has its way, the monopoly of larger IT companies to serve government’s IT projects could come to an end as the new IT norms seek to motivate the small and medium enterprises (SMEs)
Shankar Aggarwal, the Joint Secretary in the ministry of IT said that the ministry is planning to introduce a condition in their RFP (Request for proposal) that whoever gets a contract has to get at least 20 per cent of his goods procured from the SME sector and will have to submit a certificate confirming the same.
