Blinkit Ambulance will start charging ₹2,500 for non-emergency trips, while emergency transfers will stay free, Eternal founder Deepinder Goyal announced in a post on X on Thursday.
Goyal said the change was needed because more and more people were booking the ambulances for routine check-ups, hospital visits and hospital-to-home transfers. Private transport or regular ambulance services could handle these trips. Every such booking ties up a fully equipped emergency ambulance and its paramedics, which may be needed for a life-threatening case.
Goyal said the new charge is broadly in line with what private ambulance operators charge. He hopes it will sharply reduce non-emergency bookings, so ambulances stay available for cases where quick medical help can save a life. The money raised will go to the Eternal Foundation, which runs the service, to fund its operations and expansion.
“I started Zomato with a spirit of service,” Goyal said, adding that Blinkit Ambulance reflects that spirit today. Over the past two years, the service has handled about 42,000 cases, including around 20,000 emergencies, without charging for any of them.
Blinkit launched its 10-minute ambulance service in Gurugram in January 2025 with five vehicles. The company now aims to take Blinkit Ambulance to all major cities in India over the next two to four years.
Goyal said the biggest challenge to growth is finding trained and empathetic paramedics. To address this, the company is scaling up its training academy while keeping its training standards high.
The announcement came after a user posted on social media that Blinkit Ambulance had helped save his grandmother’s life by reaching his home within eight minutes.
