Weather forecasting services provider Skymet Weather Services has recently raised $4.5 million in Series B funding from multiple investors led by Asia Pacific, the investment arm of UK-based media firm Daily Mail and General Trust plc (DMGT) and Godrej group-backed existing investor Omnivore Partners.
The company earlier had reportedly raised Rs 4.5 crore from Omnivore Capital in 2011 with 33 per cent stake in the firm.
The funds will be used to expand its network, introduce new instrumentation for tracking hail and frost, research and development for weather forecasting and crop area or yield forecasting.
The company will be re-launching Skymet's website later this month, which will offer weather forecasts in seven languages, including Hindi and Marathi.
Skymet currently has a network of 2,000 automatic weather stations (AWS) in the country and was founded in 2003 by Jatin Singh.
