SAP to target SMEs with a pay-as-you-use model

SAP AG, a German business software maker, has launched ‘pay-as-you-use Business ByDesign software’ for small-and medium-sized customers.

The software will be SAP’s strongest product in the cloud environment, where customers rent the software through the Internet and pay for it according to usage, as against the traditional model of buying the software and running it on their own servers.

The software will be efficient in cost and value for the SME segment. SAP had earlier introduced it in 2007 but it failed due to technical glitches and inability to attract more customers to rent it online.
