For deciding the fate of nearly five lakh sick micro, small and medium enterprises MSMEs in the country the Prime Minister’s task force on MSMEs is considering formulation of a body similar to the Board of Industrial & Financial Reconstruction (BIFR).
The task force is also planning to generate a Rs 1,000-crore fund to revive viable firms. As per March 2001 census out of 22.1 lakh registered MSMEs, close to five lakh were sick.
The task force is likely to discuss the recommendations made by the sub-committees, with the prime minister by the end of this month.
