Online test preparation platform Toppr has acquired Jodhpur based EasyPrep, an e-learning platform that empowers teachers to help students prepare for entrance exams. This acquisition aligns with Toppr’s vision of democratizing education by making it more accessible and affordable for all.
Entrance exam preparation market for K12 students is valued at $8 billion and growing at 20 per cent every year. Over past few years,Toppr has grown to a team of over 100 members and serving over 1,50,000 plus students across India.
Founded by IIT Jodhpur alumni Vivek Sharma and Ankit Saraswat and mentored by Jaipur based, Startup Oasis, an Incubation Centre set-up jointly by the Rajasthan State Industrial and Investment Corporation (RIICO) and IIM Ahmedabad’s Incubation Centre, CIIE, EasyPrep is a customized exam creation platform for schools, coaching institutes and teachers and an exam preparation platform for students. EasyPrep provides an online or offline platform for schools, coaching institutes and teachers to create exam papers for their classroom teaching and also helps students prepare for competitive examinations.
Talking about the acquisition, Chintan Bakshi, COO, Startup Oasis, remarked, “This acquisition is a further validation of the hypothesis that by creating a robust and supportive start-up ecosystem, high quality start-ups can emerge even from the smaller tier-2 and tier-3 cities in India. The mandate of Startup Oasis is to build a robust start-up ecosystem in the key geographies of Rajasthan like Jaipur, Udaipur and Jodhpur."
Earlier this month, RazorPay, a Jaipur based start-up, based out of the Startup Oasis Incubation Centre, was selected for the prestigious Silicon Valley based accelerator, YCombinator, and received Rs 80 lacs of seed funding. Also in April, Karma Healthcare, an Udaipur based rural healthcare startup mentored by Startup Oasis, was funded an undisclosed amount by the Mumbai based impact investment fund Ankur Capital.
Talking about the acquisition, CEO of Easy Prep, Vivek Sharma mentioned that “The key strength of Easy Prep was its deep understanding of the test assessment domain especially in the tier-2 and tier 3 cities, high quality content and finally robust technology that empowered the teacher and small coaching institutes to better train their students rather than try and bypass them. In India, especially in the smaller cities, the role of the teacher and the tutor is very important and successful online learning and assessment solutions need to be built with them rather than around them."
The Easy Prep team will soon be shifting from Jodhpur will be working out of the Toppr office in Mumbai.
