Banking, telecom, logistics, IT companies and industry associations have expressed a desire to tie up with India Post to sell their products.
Public sector banks are keen to discuss retailing of loan products, mutual funds and other new age financial products and the logistics sector seeks to provide services to semi-urban and rural areas for consumers.
Central government ministries and state governments suggested that post offices be used to deliver social security schemes like the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
"This will help the department of posts to develop the future business model and its integration with the technological architecture of India," Communications Minister Kapil Sibal said.
