There is need to change this situation. The share of women entrepreneurs needs to be raised to at least 25 per cent, Minister for MSMEs Vayalar Ravi said.
He was addressing the 12th Global Conference of Women Entrepreneurs in Delhi on Monday.
Of the total 1.9 million women-owned enterprises in the country of which only 215,100 were registered, the share of southern states is the highest, according to the Ministry of MSMEs.
On the occassion, the Minister spoke about many schemes for grants, skill development, technological training among others, aimed at women, and appealed to all states to utilise these to draw more women into entrepreneurship.
The Minister for Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare from Mauritius, Maria Francesca Mireille, said that the country is open to joint ventures and co-operation with women entrepreneurs in the field of raw material, technology and equipment and other areas.
The three-day conference is being attended by delegates from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Switzerland among others, some of whom are also exhibiting their wares at the venue.
