What do you have to say of a business that does not have the culture of accountability?

Well you can very well say that it will not have the required rules that can put together the business. If the employees of the company do not take the responsibility of what they are doing then, the working of the business cannot be said to be right.

  • Do you set goals and have performance standards for your employees, departments and teams?

 

  • Secondly, are your employees’ responsibilities to achieve their goals and meet their performance standards spelt out clearly?

 

  • Do your employees acknowledge their goals and performance standards and accept the requirement to be held accountable for them?
  • Do they understand why accountability is an important element in the success or failure of your business?

 

  • Do you follow up the accountability process? Do you reward the achievers and punish the non achievers? Is the follow up done on a timely basis?

  • Defined Responsibilities- You can have defined responsibilities from the establishment of formal performance expectations for every employee. Performance expectations define exactly what is expected of each position within the company.

 

  • Goals-The employees should have on the job goals for himself or herself. But the goals should be established and agreed upon both by the employee and the supervisor.

 

  • Feedback-The employees should have intermittent and timely discussions with their supervisor on the progress in meeting their performance expectations and in achieving their goals.

 

  • Follow Up-The performance expectations fulfilled and goals achieved must be followed up appreciation, recognition and where applicable rewards. The non achievements and of performance expectations and goals should be followed up.

 

It is important as an entrepreneur that you have an accountability culture in your business. You should have the elements to create and maintain a culture of accountability in the company. A company with an accountability culture can not go wrong.
