Whatever the season, and that includes winter, ice-cream has always been a perennial favourite, irrespective of age groups too. What is amazing is the variety of ice-cream available even of different national and international brands

COOL AND CREAMY

Ice-cream as an industry is growing at a galloping rate in India with almost 22% CAGR growth on an annual basis. This is predominantly due to changes in Indian eating habits. Compared to conventional ice-creams where preservatives were used for the making of ice-cream, now it is liquid nitrogen that is a major contributor, helping do away with the problem of crystal formation. Freshly made ice-creams is the next hot business opportunity and will constitute about 5% of the market share in the coming years, which means liquid nitrogen ice-cream parlours can be a Rs 2,250 crore industry across India of the existing Rs 45,000 crore industry it is as a whole.

For instance, Dharmesh Patel, Franchise Sales Director – India, Creamistry, saw great potential in this industry and obtained a master franchise for Indian territories. The US-based brand has already tasted success in Ahmedabad and is now looking for partners to take the brand pan-India via the route of franchising. As Patel says, “We are always looking for owners who are as passionate about ice-cream as we are – franchisees who love to put smiles on people’s faces with quality products, friendly staff and enjoyable environment to provide a one-of-a-kind experience that will have customers coming in again and again.”

Another renowned business opportunity provider in this industry is Frost Bite & Company. On offering a white labeling business opportunity, Murtuza Rajapkar, its owner, states: “We are an end-to-end business solution provider. We, we supply equipment, carry out the installation and train young entrepreneurs to venture into the new field of ice-cream at a low cost. We have implemented almost 35 outlets across India and our market size would be 0.01% of all the brands put together. We are a white labelling company and hence we do not lend our name to the outlets where we provide the solutions. However, the end-to-end processes at these outlets are provided by us. This gives an upper hand to young entrepreneurs to enter the market with their own name and then grow their brand in the market while relying on us for backend support.”

Punjab-based dessert brand Get Desserted too is looking at scalability. Says the company’s director, Udit Khaitan: “We are seeking franchisees in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. We are looking to expand through the franchise model as it’s a scalable concept. Our concept is to make everything fresh and live in front of the customer. This helps us achieve zero wastage as regards raw materials since there is no need to stock it.”
