The Odisha government has decided to roll out its updated Electric Vehicle Policy 2.0, with an ambitious goal—achieving 50% battery electric vehicle (BEV) share in new vehicle registrations by the year 2036. The revised policy focuses on extending the validity of the current Odisha EV Policy 2021 while enhancing incentives for both EV consumers and charge point operators (CPOs).
A high-level meeting was recently held in Bhubaneswar, chaired by Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport, and Vishal Kumar Dev, Principal Secretary, Energy Department. The meeting included senior officials from both departments and focused on crafting a strategic roadmap to accelerate the state’s transition toward sustainable electric mobility.
Odisha has already witnessed a significant rise in EV adoption, growing from 1.16% of new vehicle registrations in 2021 to 8.71% as of June 20, 2025. Currently, the state operates over 550 public charging stations (PCS), including infrastructure from two-wheeler manufacturers, oil marketing companies, and power utilities.
To further strengthen charging infrastructure, the State Transport Authority (STA) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for setting up EV charging stations at key locations across the state.
The new policy aims to follow a balanced and holistic approach by supporting local EV manufacturing on the supply side and providing stronger consumer incentives on the demand side. This integrated strategy is expected to ensure inclusive and sustainable growth of Odisha’s EV ecosystem.
