India’s Unified Payments Interface has completed 10 years of operations with transaction value touching a record ₹314 lakh crore in FY26 marking an increase of more than 4,000 times since its launch.
The platform had recorded transaction value of only ₹0.07 lakh crore in 2016 17 which was the first year of UPI operations.
Launched on April 11 2016 by the National Payments Corporation of India under the regulatory supervision of the Reserve Bank of India the Unified Payments Interface has evolved into the backbone of India’s digital payments ecosystem and a major driver of financial inclusion the finance ministry said in a statement.
