Footwear major Bata India Ltd reported a sharp 73% drop in consolidated net profit to ₹13.9 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2025, as lower sales and rising costs pressured earnings.

The company had posted a profit of ₹51.98 crore in the same quarter last year, according to its regulatory filing.

Revenue from operations fell 4.3% year-on-year to ₹801.33 crore, down from ₹837.14 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal. Meanwhile, total expenses rose to ₹795.2 crore, compared with ₹785.09 crore a year ago, narrowing the company’s operating margin.

Bata India, one of the country’s oldest and largest footwear brands, has been facing challenges amid muted discretionary spending and increased competition in the affordable footwear segment.

The company did not immediately provide details on its retail expansion or cost-optimization measures for the quarter.
