Problem
In India, Households & Enterprises sell off their recyclables to traditional recyclable waste buyers (also called "Kabadiwalas"). The Recycling industry is dominated by these informal waste buyers and people face various problems (lack of on-demand collection service, unregulated rates, cheating in weight measurement, offline transactions, etc.) while dealing with them.
Solution
We discovered that some of the most pressing challenges faced in the recycling industry could be solved through digital technology and hence, we came up with Swapeco, a digital platform (App/Web) that enables users to dispose of their Recyclables/KABAD (Paper, Plastics, Metals, E-waste, etc.) in a responsible & rewarding manner. Users can simply schedule a doorstep pickup for their recyclables & get paid for them.
Progress:
Over the last 2 years, we have received more than 40K registrations on our platform from all over India and have successfully executed around 10K pickups (currently operating only in Delhi). We have successfully diverted around 800,000 kilograms of recyclables from landfills to recycling units through our platform. We’re doing a gross transaction value of around 20 Lacs per month.
