The story of BASANT Kulfi is a testament to the journey of innovation, family commitment, and business growth. It began in 1952 when Late Sr. Lal Singh founded BASANT Kulfi with humble beginnings. Armed with a hand cart and a passion for creating delightful frozen treats, he supplied his handmade kulfi to various schools in Ludhiana. His dedication and quality quickly garnered attention, leading to his first significant milestone in 1965: the opening of a rented shop at Field Gunj, outside Kucha No. 5, solely for selling his beloved kulfi.
A Legacy Passed Down
In the early 1970s, Sr. Lal Singh's son, Sr. Rajinder Singh, joined the family business, bringing with him a spirit of innovation. Under his vision, the product range expanded to include a variety of ice creams and kulfis, such as Fruit Ice Cream, Kulfi Gharey Wali, and Milk Badam, which resonated with customers. His innovations, combined with the dedication of the family, allowed the business to thrive. Soon, they purchased their own shop, which became a popular and enduring landmark in Ludhiana.
Modernization and Expansion
The year 1992 marked a turning point for BASANT Kulfi. The family expanded their offerings by opening a modern ice cream parlor at Field Gunj, Kucha No. 9. This parlor wasn’t just a place to enjoy ice cream; it also featured a food joint serving Chinese cuisine, a novel addition that received widespread acclaim in Ludhiana. This diversification played a pivotal role in establishing BASANT Kulfi as a household name.
The Next Generation Steps In
With the entry of Sr. Rajinder Singh’s sons, Charanjit Singh and Kanwal Preet Singh, into the business, BASANT Kulfi experienced significant growth. In 2002, Charanjit Singh took the reins of the ice cream manufacturing division. Under his leadership, an ultra-modern ice cream factory was established in Rajguru Nagar, Ludhiana. Equipped with state-of-the-art machinery imported from Italy, the factory enabled the production of large quantities of ice cream while maintaining exceptional quality.
Regional Impact
This modernized facility allowed BASANT Kulfi to cater to a growing demand, not just in Ludhiana but across Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu. The business’s commitment to quality and innovation ensured its position as a leading name in the region’s ice cream industry.
A Story of Perseverance and Vision
What started as a small venture in 1952 has grown into a symbol of quality and tradition in the food industry. The Lal Singh family’s dedication to excellence, coupled with their ability to adapt and innovate, has ensured that BASANT Kulfi remains a cherished brand, offering delicious treats to generations of customers.
