As compared to the US, the increasing demand is largely witnessed from EU, which covers 80 percent of Indian leather exports.
As per a report of Leather Council, export of leather will see a growth of 15 per cent by 2011. The reason is attributed to an increase in demand from EU. India's labour intensive leather industry, which provides employment to 2.5 million people, accounts for 2.62 percent of the global leather import trade of $137.13 billion. Leather exports from India are expected to touch US $8.25 billion by 2013-14.
