With a rich legacy of over eight decades and an expan­sive portfolio of well-curated designs, Coimbatore-based Kar­pagam is a household name among jewellery connoisseurs in South India. Popularly known for its craftsmanship and patented jewellery lines, Karpagam aims to bring a touch of traditional el­egance and contemporary design to every jewel box.

He highlights that in 2004 the company pat­ented the jewellery line ‘Terra Aurum,’ being the world’s first to introduce terracotta-based gold jewellery.

Karpagam, a pioneer in customised jewellery, is one of the very few brands that allow its customers to choose the cut, clarity and design of even diamond jewellery. The company allows customers to cus­tomise a gold product’s texture and finish before placing an order. “Every piece of jewellery you find here is created consider­ing the astute tastes and preferences of discern­ing customers,” states Ramdass.

Besides, in a recent initiative to attract the customers who shop online, Karpagam has launched the ‘try at home’ facility, where customers can try a vast collection of jewellery in the comfort of their homes. “With this facility, wherein a jewel­lery expert visits custom­ers at their chosen time of convenience, they get to see real-time jewellery from our collections in the comfort of their homes. We are striving to make every customer trans­action memorable,” highlights Ramdass.

EXPANSION PLANS

Close to five decades after entering the re­tailing business, Karpa­gam is now looking at rapid expansion across India through franchise model. Commenting on this, Velusamy R, CEO, Karpagam Jewellers, reveals, “We want to enter more markets and franchising is the best way to understand the local regions. We want to open stores in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata and New Delhi.”

He highlighted that pro­spective franchisees need to possess high investment capacity, presence on high street, experience in retail­ing, being well-connected in the society and passion to run jewellery store will be an added advantage.

The brand will assist fran­chise partners with retailing operations, sourcing of prod­ucts, establishing policies and systems, recruitment and training, IT infrastruc­ture, and marketing and promotions, all while trans­ferring product knowledge to the franchise partners.

Signing off, he adds, “Ev­ery Karpagam piece is made with the intent of lasting generations, given its unique beauty and exceptional qual­ity. With a focus on tradition­al and ethnic jewellery and over hundreds of designs to choose from, Karpagam ensures that each and every individual finds an ornament to their liking.”
