AN EXTRA EDGE WITH ENGLISH

Rupinder Singh of Bhatinda set up E-School after realising that there was huge potential to coach students for the IELTS – a decision that has paid rich dividends

AN EXTRA EDGE WITH ENGLISH

The chase for greener pastures and foreign dreams has driven the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) coaching market in India, making it a Rs 1,100 crore industry. There are over 6 lakh students expected to appear for the IELTS this year in Punjab and Chandigarh. This makes it one of the biggest markets in Asia for the English aptitude test.

THE E-SCHOOL WAY

E-School sets itself apart through a specialized hiring criterion where the instructors are selected based on their score of 7+ out of 9 in IELTS. They are further trained for six months. In addition, each student is allocated to different batches according to their grades in English in 10th and 10+2 exams.

Besides an IELTS preparation kit with 25 books, each student is provided with daily updated material at par with Cambridge standards as well as audio and visual inputs. The institute boasts of enabling over 300 students achieve the 9-band in at least one of the categories in IELTS.

As far as IELTS business is concerned, E-School has been recently awarded the ‘Premier Plus Partner of the Year, Punjab’ by the British Council and India’s No. 1 IELTS Business Partner in 7-star category by IDP this year.

FRANCHISE ROUTE

The institute has four self-owned centres in Bhatinda, Barnala, Sangrur and Abohar. It has recently added two FOCO centres in Ludhiana and Patiala. “We prefer the FOCO model as we can work together and ensure uniformity and quality of the staff, teaching methodology, syllabus, and facilities across the centres. In the FOCO model, we are open to franchisees from any background,” Singh elaborates.

In the FOFO model, E-School looks for people with experience in running an educational institute. An E-School franchise requires an investment of Rs 50 lakhs and 3,500-6,000 sq. feet area, preferably near a bus station for easier commute of students. “With competitive fee structure, franchisees can expect break-even in 30 months. We provide aggressive marketing and social media promotion as well as staff recruitment, training and syllabus management support,” Singh says.

EXPANSION PLANS

The company is now looking for expansion in Rajasthan and Haryana.
