Acroyoga

With the concept of ‘acroyoga’ dating back to when parents rocked their kids on their feet, none is sure where the concept actually originated but acrobats have grown the practice over the years. A form of partner yoga which brings together yoga, acrobatics and Thai massage, acroyoga is playful and fun but also a therapeutic form of yoga which is fast seeing the entry of global players in India, one of them being AcroYoga International that originated in the US in 2003 and was developed by Jenny Sauer-Klein and Jason Nemer, a dancer and a yogi. AcroYoga can make you feel light as a feather or rooted like a tree since this practice is based on listening, trust and respect. A couple of AcroYoga workshops and elemental immersions are doing rounds in India through AcroYoga International and some of them are slated to take place in March this year, the venue being Goa, welcoming both beginners and experienced practitioners of yoga.

Mobile Spas

Mobile spas are the next best solution to the woes of all workaholics, providing the advantages of a spa therapy right outside your doorstep. For countries like Malaysia, the concept of a mobile spa is quite popular in comparison to India where the concept is an innovative one. “I believe the Indian market is ready to explore and accept our indigenous spa treatment from Malaysia,” says Norliza Othman, Managing Director, Teratak Spa. “All Teratak Spa outlets across the border are offering Urutan Malaysia treatment which integrates all the cultures in Malaysia and accurately portrays the essence and soul of the Malaysian spirit,” she adds.

Skin and Hair Treatments

Growing consciousness among people regarding anti-oxidants for skin and hair, anti-ageing remedies and solutions for acne treatment, among other things, has created space for a plethora of international beauty and wellness brands to storm in. Stephanie Sherlock, CEO, Architects of Skin, says, “The beauty industry in India is moving ahead at a rapid pace. Mostly the demands for beauty services come from northern India where the markets are highly saturated.” She expresses her excitement in extending the skin care services of Architects of Skin, an Australian company, across India. “Our store will include online as well as offline services,” she reveals. The company has been growing 40% every year.

Go Vegan

Globetrotting in every sector, the latest vegan viral has caught the fancy of the Indian wellness market too. The result is that people are now opting for everything organic and chemical-free, be it in their diet or in the cosmetics they apply. This has left a window open for international brands like Paul Penders, who has made an entry into the Indian market. Penders is an active environmentalist and an avid animal rights activist and says that he incorporates similar beliefs into their skincare and cosmetics products. His philosophy of “no chemicals” and “no animal testing” started with shampoos and later on evolved into a bounty of new skincare products for people of all ages.
