WHERE ‘LITTLE ELLY’ TAKES CARE OF THE LITTLE ONES

Early childhood is a highly sensitive period when rapid transformations in physical, cognitive, social and emotional development take place. And parents struggle in every way possible to find the right school for their child. This, coupled with many other factors, has given a boost to the concept of preschool or the child care industry in India. In fact, market research analysts have predicted a CAGR of almost 22% between 2016- 2022.

THE UNIQUENESS

Established in 2004-05, Little Elly Preschool is the flagship brand of Learning Edge India (P) Ltd. and is a combination of Bhandary’s rich experience as a kindergarten teacher and love for teaching in innovative ways. With the support of her husband, Vittal Bhandary, the first Little Elly Preschool was started in 2004 and today owns 125 preschools spread across 15 cities in India.

“In 2016, the company marked its international presence by establishing the first Little Elly Preschool in Seattle, USA. This year, we expanded into Nepal. Moving away from the typical classroom design, Little Elly Preschool has a series of ‘concept rooms’. Based on Montessori and Steiner’s Methodology, the curriculum at Little Elly Preschool is a stimulating combination of academics and practical activities,” informs Bhandary.

THE CHALLENGES

It was her theoretical knowledge and practical exposure that gave Bhandary a real-life understanding of the best practices in the field of early childhood education and care. Like any other brand, Little Elly Preschool too had its share of challenges which included competition in the market, expectations of new-age parents, and identification of right premises, among others. Further, being a woman entrepreneur also brought on its own set of unique obstacles, as is common in India for women who dare to get into business. However, Bhandary feels that “they have come a long way and are contributing greatly in the development of the economy with 100% commitment in
their work”.

THE FRANCHISE MODEL

Moving forward, Little Elly Preschool is planning to establish at least 10 centres in Nepal by 2020. Bhandary asserts, “We have already marked our presence in Seattle and Nepal and are planning to expand aggressively in all our markets. Franchising is one of the proven ways of expansion in our industry. It is also an opportunity for first time entrepreneurs to venture into a successful business and expect quick return on investment,” she says.

“Owning a Little Elly Preschool franchise means one can enjoy the freedom and flexibility of running her own preschool while having the support of a recognised brand every step of the way,” Bhandary adds.
