FRANCHISE BUSINESS BOOSTS WOMEN POWER

Women are certainly not shying away from the franchising sector and as data shows, up to 26% of franchisee buyers are women

FRANCHISE BUSINESS BOOSTS WOMEN POWER

Like their male counterparts, there are number of reasons why women are drawn to the world of business. For example, the independence that comes with it, the great work-life balance, the opportunity to work from home, and the fascinating kick of being your own boss. One of the facts which substantiates this business trend is that the number of women franchisees (women who take up a franchisee opportunity) has nearly doubled over the past decade. Presently, there are more than 3,000 franchisee brands in India, with more than 1,000 global brands contemplating plans for entering India. Out of these, nearly 26% of franchisee buyers are women and the numbers are growing.

EDUCATION

They say that a woman is a natural parent and guide to a child. Women are blessed with certain natural instincts which make it easy and natural for them to get an inherent understanding of a child’s psychology. As such, a lot of women are successfully spearheading education businesses – whether it is Sudha Gupta who started Mother’s Pride, the first branded pre-schools chain or Lina Asher of Kangaroo kids, which has 100+ pre-schools all over India as well as internationally.

SPAS AND SALONS

Beauty has traditionally been the forte of women. Women have created a name for themselves in this industry, and have been frontrunners in setting trends and best practices. They have also achieved celebrity status like the famous Bharti Taneja, Aashmeen Munjal and Vidya Tikari. These women have not only successfully set up their own ventures, but are also training a number of other people through their academies and helping them earn their livelihood.

OTHER NEW-AGE BUSINESSES

Apart from businesses like fashion and jewellery where women can exploit their enhanced aesthetic sense, they have also forayed into the health and fitness sector where new jobs like dietician, nutritionist and concepts like ‘women only’ gyms and fitness centres are emerging as well as the food business with women having a natural inclination towards hosting and hospitality. In addition, there are other newer businesses emerging where women have the scope to do well, including senior care and home care services, which are already very popular in developed countries.
