THE NEW FITNESS MANTRA

In order to create awareness among men, many yoga-wear brands have started producing ranges designed specifically with men in mind

The yoga-wear market size is estimated to be over $13 billion, although there are over 200 million yoga practitioners worldwide. In the yoga-wear segment, a woman has traditionally more choices than a man. However, for the past 2-3 years, a shift has been observed. Many yoga-wear brands have started producing ranges designed specifically for men.

Yoga is not just a spiritual trend or fashion, rather it is a meditate workout that has tremendous health benefits. The growing yoga movement has boosted the demand for the yoga-wear worldwide.

The yoga-wear offers extra liberation and freedom from the constrictive nature of traditional menswear and formal suits. Today’s men want sustainable yoga-wear that not only offers comfort and elasticity, but also prevent fluidity of movement and minimize overall fitness outcome. There are few brands in the market that produce men’s yoga-wear for the elevated performance.

• Moon & Son: The US-based brand currently operates with one outlet in New York. The T-shirts with ‘Downward Dogs’ and ‘Yoga Drunks’ bring a unique and light-hearted quality to the brand. The price of the products ranges from $15-30. Although the shirts and shorts are made of different fabric weights, they are designed to accommodate both heated and non-heated yoga practices for men.

• Prana: The US brand has presence in over 27 countries. It is an eco-friendly, sustainable, versatile and stylish men’s yoga-wear brand, with a line of hemp-woven sutra pants, shorts and t-shirts. It does not have a store in India, but the brand ships the yoga-wear apparels here if ordered online. The price of the products ranges from $25-90.

• Domyos: The France-based brand has its presence through Decathlon - a sports retail chain with a presence in 26 countries. Decathlon has 46 company-owned outlets in India. The price of the products ranges from Rs 300-2000.

• Yogasmoga: The US-based brand was founded in 2010 by Rishi and Tapasya Bali. They are the designer, manufacturer and retailer of yoga-inspired athletic apparel and accessories.

Even though, yoga has been routed from India, but the market is largely untapped. Few Indian brands such as Proyog, Bhusattva, Moral Fibre, Forever Yoga, Do U Speak Green, and Urban Yoga have lined up a range of organic breathable yoga wear, but most of them produce yoga-wear for women, as over 75 per cent Indian who practice yoga are women.
