Pushkaraj Shenai, CEO, Lakmé Lever, talks about the brand’s journey and its expansion plans

What are the milestones achieved by your brand?

Lakmé Salon’s franchise journey as a beauty entrepreneur started in 2001. We have partnered with more than 150 professionals and entrepreneurs in executing discipline and managing teams to grow from single salons to a multi-unit operation. We’ve some of our top performing franchise partners, who started with us and have grown into multi-unit operators. Several CAs, MBAs from top notch institutes like Jamnalal Bajaj, IIM, ISB, Symbiosis, IT professionals, doctors have joined Lakmé as business partners in the recent times.

What is unique about your products/services?

We have transformed the Lakmé Salon customer’s experience with our clutter-breaking innovation services -- Runway Secrets, the trend-setting hair and beauty show Stopping Collections launched at the Lakmé Fashion Week, and industry benchmarked Runway Rewards customer loyalty programme. Customer service excellence, our innovation services’ portfolio that includes services such as Luminance 3+ ritual, White Tea Vitality services, Lakmé Illuminate Perfect Radiance facial, Fashionista facial, etc contribute to 30 per cent of our revenue.

What are your expansion plans?

We are expanding Lakmé Salon with a proven model, refined over the years, across regions and population strata aggressively through the franchising route. Today, Lakmé Salon has a presence of over 300 salons, across 80-plus cities. About 15 per cent of the network is company-owned and operated, while 85 per cent is franchisee-owned and operated.
