A PROFITABLE RIDE

Motorcycle rental and tour company EagleRider has launched its first India franchise in New Delhi. In a tête-à-tête with Payal Gulati, Chris McIntyre, Founder and CEO, EagleRider shares his vision for India

What made EagleRider enter India?

EagleRider sees India as ‘the next big thing’ in motorcycle vacations. The large population, growing economy and growing interest in motorcycles are very attractive to us.

What’s the USP of the brand?

EagleRider is certainly unique since in 1992 we basically created the entire motorcycle rental and tour industry. Since then we’ve offered rentals and tours on everything from Harley- Davidson motorcycles to Vespa scooters. Our most unique selling point is that we sell dreams. Our focus isn’t on the actual motorcycle but rather on the total customer experience.

What are the rentals?

In India, we currently rent Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Models include Fat Boy, Heritage Softail Classic, Road King and Sportster. We also offer Triumph Bonneville. The rental rates are from $83 to $189 per day.

Why franchising?

With such a large world with different regulations in each country, we feel that someone who truly understands the business practices in a different country can start up a location better than we can from the USA. This coupled with our global brand and marketing creates a good system.

What’s your criterion for selecting the right franchise partner?

There are financial requirements including a Net Worth of $400,000 with liquid assets of $200,000. This is mainly to ensure financial stability in our partners. On top of that, we look for someone with a good business sense, work ethics and being a motorcycle enthusiast really helps as well.

What all support would you be providing to your franchisees?

There are many benefits of being a part of the EagleRider brand. First, is simply the global recognition of EagleRider as the leading power sport rental and tour company in the world. Second is our large web-presence and our giant database of customers (we did over 100,000 rentals last year alone). By signing up with EagleRider franchisees are provided with a week’s worth of training at the EagleRider headquarters in Los Angeles, as well as continued support. They are entered into our main website as well as have a microsite built for them and they are publicized with our many wholesale partners from around the world.

What are your expansion plans?

We believe that the motorcycle industry in India will continue to grow and we will continue to look for the right partners to develop different regions in India.
