Owing to its strategic location and skilled manpower, India is the fulcrum for automobile Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Most of the established brands have set up their manufacturing base here. Established in 1994, Mercedes-Benz India Pvt. Ltd pioneered the luxury car market in India and boasts of more than 129 years of cutting edge innovation in the luxury automobile industry globally. German luxury car manufacturer, Audi with a worldwide presence in over 110 countries has been selling its products in the Indian market since 2004. In March 2007, Audi set up its own sales company for India. By establishing Audi India as a division of Volkswagen Group Sales India Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai, it has chopped out ambitious growth plan for the country. Another division of the group, Porsche India commenced its operations in 2012. Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC, a British multinational automotive company is a subsidiary of the Indian automaker Tata Motors.

Fast driving sales in India

Mercedes-Benz registered a stellar 40% growth in Q1 2015 sales. The company clocked its best-ever quarter sales of 3,566 units. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mercedes-Benz India comments, “The robust growth along with other multiple sales records achieved in the first quarter of 2015, is a result of our commitment to a strong customer focus.” Audi India registered a sale of 11,292 units in the period April 2014-March 2015 with a growth of +11.51%. “We are looking forward to an exciting 2015 and strengthening our base in India with 10 new models including the Audi TT and new Audi Q3 coming up,” says Joe King, Head, Audi India. Porsche delivered 7,042 vehicles in Asia Pacific, Africa and the Middle East.

Straight drive to growth

Currently, Mercedes-Benz India has over 71 outlets located in 38+ Indian cities including three standalone Mercedes-Benz certified outlets, making it a brand with a dense network presence in the luxury segment in India. It inaugurated a new dealership in Jamshedpur and Jharkhand. It also recently declared its plan to open 14+ more outlets in matured as well as emerging tier II and III cities in India. Audi recently entered the North-Eastern market by opening its first dealership in Guwahati. It has anticipated to sell over 150-200 units in the first year. Currently, Audi India has a network of over 35 dealerships pan-India. The rise in disposable income of the consumers and increasing urbanisation rate has greatly empowered the Indian market. No wonder luxury cars have established a firm base in India!
