What made you take the franchise of Van Heusen?
I am a teacher by profession but always wanted to do something different. I always wanted to open a store by myself. We were already doing market research for different brands when we came across my husband's friend and he suggested choosing Van Heusen. But, before making our mind, we travelled across Delhi, searched for the best brands and their investment details and finally landed up happily opening Van Heusen store in Lajpat Nagar, New Delhi.
Did you get any support from brand's side?
Yes, they gave us full support. They gave me different franchise models to choose from. Out of all, I thought FOCO was most apt for a women. One can easily manage home and also work independently. The space, location, staff, training, operations, knowledge, everything was provided by the company. Company does monthly audits also to keep a check and this also acts as a learning experience for me.
How much time do you devote?
I teach children during the day and then go to the store. Most of the things are taken care of by the trained staff only. The best part is that the company trains the staff every month and gives them total knowledge on new product launches, operations and may more aspects. It is a kind of business option that can be carried off easily without even disturbing your daily chores.
You had any previous knowledge about the company or its brand's?
Yes. During shopping in Delhi and choosing different brands, I had gathered a lot of information about Aditya Birla Group and its brands like Allen Solly, Peter England and Louis Philippe etc. After taking the franchise rights, the company also guided us on the same.
Any challenge as a woman?
I believe every new venture brings challenges with it but teaches you a lot. I had little problems in operations, staff welfare etc but the company support is so strong that it didn’t last for long. I can now happily manage my family life and my new passion too.
