“Trust, a key factor for successful franchising”

“My personal journey with Liberty has been so incredible that I will continue to grow with the Liberty Pariwar,” says Sarita Gouthi, Multi-unit franchisee of Liberty.

In a candid conversation with Beny Sachdeva she spoke about her entreprenurial journey at length.

Share your entrepreneurial journey.

I was born in a Sardarshahar, a small village based in the Churu District of Rajasthan. I completed my B.Com from Calcutta University in 1983 and soon got married. I had never imagined that I would be able to start my own business from the ground-up. I was doubtful when I went to Liberty Puram in Karnal for the first time to meet with Late P. D. Gupta in 1994. It was especially challenging to think about doing something that would have me commit time away from my seven year old son at home.

P.D Sahab was a visionary. The belief that he had in me and his constant words of inspiration keep me motivated even today. I started my 1st exclusive Liberty Footwear franchise in July 1994 in Bangalore and the rest as they say is history.

I was nervous when I first started but I also knew that the entire Liberty Pariwar was with me, by my side, on this amazing journey.

What motivated you to take franchise for Liberty and how many stores are you running so far?

When you decide to be your own boss there is only little additional motivation that you really need and it helps that the name of the company that you are getting associated with means freedom. Today I am a proud owner of seven of the largest Liberty stores in Bangalore and we have proudly been serving the residents of Karnataka for over two decades now.

According to you, what is the most important element to be a successful franchisee?

At the end of the day I see franchising as a way of expanding and distributing my presence with the help of a brand. There are no real secrets when it comes to successful franchising. Trust is a key factor. You need to be honest and transparent in your dealings and as long as you stay accountable and committed, the company continues to support and help strengthen your growth.

What kind of training and support does your franchisor offer you?

Liberty is doing a lot to help business owners like me. Liberty makes sure that our stores are able to cater to needs of all demographics. Liberty has invested a lot in technology too. Day to day administrative things that would take store managers hours to do earlier now take minutes, thanks to the latest POS systems and the coaching offered to train resources on these tools.

My personal journey with Liberty has been so incredible that I will continue to grow with the Liberty Pariwar.

Any advice to budding entrepreneurs.

My message to budding entrepreneurs, especially fellow women entrepreneurs is that they should stay determined, work hard, believe in themselves and dream big. Whenever you have a chance to help the community, take a step forward and do it, you will be surprised how community building helps build relationships with your future customers. The good that you do will rub off on your family and especially the kids.
