In a conversation with Ekta Verma, Nitin Passi, Director, Lotus Herbals talks about his brand's expansion plans and thoughts on franchising.

 

Discuss your entrepreneurial journey with us. What made you venture into beauty sector? 

I am the third generation in our family who is venturing into this industry. Our Dinner table conversations always revolve around the beauty industry and were part of my growing up process. It was natural for me to join the family business and contribute at Lotus Herbals in my own way.

Tell us about your outlet's presence across India.

We have recently forayed into domestic retail with the launch of our exclusive brand outlets. The first Lotus exclusive brand outlet opened its doors on the Ground Floor of the Great India Place Mall in Noida. This was quickly followed by the launch of our second exclusive brand outlet at the International departure lounge at the Indira Gandhi International airport in New Delhi. Then we launched our third outlet in New Delhi at the West Gate mall in Rajouri Garden.

 

What are your thoughts with regards to franchising your concept? Are you ready for taking the franchise route in the coming months?

As of now, we are in the process of opening EBOs that will be company owned outlets. In the future, when we look at deeper penetration into the market on a pan-India basis, we will adopt the franchise route.

 

What is the USP of Lotus Herbals?

Lotus Herbals is a leading natural care brand that offers a complete range of cutting-edge products for the skin, hair, body and make-up that are 100 per cent vegetarian and absolutely free of animal products. Our products encompass a wide range of skincare, sun care, skin lightening and brightening products and also cover the entire range of make-up products that are free of harmful toxins and chemicals.

 

Shed some light on your expansion plans.

In the near future, we plan to open more exclusive stores in Delhi and Mumbai and have set a target of opening 20 EBOs in the current financial year. We are targeting all metros and mini-metros, across the country and will establish our presence in these cities in a phased manner. All the metros are our key markets and hence we are focusing on them initially.

 

Your advice to aspiring entrepreneurs?

India is an emerging market with a lot of potential for quality brands to grow their business. It is advisable for young entrepreneurs to stay focused on their business plans and set big targets for themselves.
