Bringing in 25 years of expertise in making homes clean and refreshing, Maid Brigade, a US-based residential cleaning franchise, is set for launch in India. In an interview with Namita Bhagat, Don Hay, Founder & Chairman, Maid Brigade, shares the brand's India expansion plans.

Tell us about the origin and concept of Maid Brigade.

Maid Brigade has been the most innovative residential cleaning franchise with over 25 years of experience. We  began franchising in 1984 and currently have over 400 franchises across the United States. We were the first maid service franchise with operational software for our franchisees and a private website including vision, bulletin board, etc. We were the first residential cleaning service franchise to go green and are green clean certified.

Please share your brand's expansion plans in India.

We are just launching our brand in India and are looking for entrepreneurs who will acquire exclusive regional master development rights for specific states within India. The state master franchises will have an opportunity to opensell multiple franchises within their state. We are implementing this model, as it is challenging for one person to properly cover the entire India. Their role would be to open the first franchise, hire and train employees to provide our outstanding services and then sell sub franchises throughout their exclusive territorystate.

How lucrative is the business for Indian franchisee?

It is an excellent business opportunity for master franchisees looking for a scalable business model, with scheduling software being the most extensive training in the industry, both in the United States and onsite training in India.   Maid  Brigade  is ready for strategic partnerships with woman entrepreneurs in India  who are ready to invest in the regional development rights in the state of their choice.

Have you customised your concept for Indian market?

Every franchise concept in the United States has to be prepared to adapt to the unique economic, cultural and social conditions of each country. India is a unique market filled with unlimited potential. One of the unique challenges will be educating the customer base on the need for residential cleaning services that provide green clean products. Many people are aware, but not as aware as they should be. A safe environment for their children and avoiding hazardous chemicals is incredibly important.

What are the qualifications for a franchisee?

We are looking for entrepreneurs who we pre-qualify. We believe we are as good a fit to them as they are to us. Our fees are fair and there is flexibility within our model. Our master franchisees are sales and marketing-driven with strong organisational skills. He or she must be a “people person”.  Other qualities we look for in our franchisees include strong development plan and the necessary capital to create brand awareness locally.

What kind of marketing and support do you provide to your franchisees?

We have a marketing depot that includes marketing templates, advertising templates and a plethora of marketing tools. However, we will engage professional assistance within India to modify and adapt to the Indian culture.
