FROM TEACHER TO TRICHOLOGY EXPERT

Tell us about the inception of V Care.

Praba's V Care Health Clinic (P) Ltd was started in year 2004. The company had a turnover of Rs 7.5 crore in 2009-10 financial year. We have 10 branches in Chennai, Pondicherry, Salem, Coimbatore, Trichy, Madurai, Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam.

V Care provides treatments to various hair-related problems utilising the concepts and principles of trichology (study of hair) and various alternative medical sciences like homeopathy, ayurveda, naturopathy, aromatherapy, etc.

How competitive is the trichology market in India?

Ours is a specific segment in the health and wellness industry. Hair treatment is a segment, which is haunted by a very few players. We almost hold a monopoly in South India. The market size of the industry is around Rs 20 to 30 crore per annum. The penetration level is quiet less at around 3 to 4 per cent, which provides a great scope.

What products and services are offered by V Care?

V care is offering clinical treatments and kit treatments. The kit treatment is a homecare treatment for those who cannot visit the clinics frequently. There are different types of clinical treatments like premier plus hair rejuvenation therapy, premier hair rejuvenation therapy and hair rejuvenation therapy. There are different kits like anti-dandruff kit, hair nourish kit, alopecia areata kit, premature grey hair kit, etc. There are a variety of hair treatment products like shampoos, vitalisers, serum, gel and nutritional supplements.

How many patients are treated by V Care every year?

Nearly around 10,000 to 12,000 patients are treated by us every year.

What are your company's expansion plans?

We are initially planning to offer franchises in Andhra Pradesh in cities like Tirupati, Kakinada, Rajmundhary, Warangal, etc. Then we will be offering franchises in states of Karnataka and Kerala. By the end of 2011, we have plans to offer franchises pan India.

What kind of training do you provide to your franchisees and their staff?

There are training programmes for consultants, branch managers, therapists and other staff members appointed by the franchisee, conducted either at V Care academy or at franchisee's location. The training is repeated periodically to keep the staff equipped.
