IN AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW, CANADA-BASED DR ASLAM KHAN, CHAIRMAN, KKT INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THE SPINE, TALKS ABOUT BRINGING SPINE CARE TREATMENT THROUGH A SOPHISTICATED SOUND WAVE-BASED TECHNOLOGY INTO INDIA BY OPENING FRANCHISED CLINICS.

What is the genesis of KKT International?

KKT is a unique, patented, non-invasive technology that uses sound waves to easily and painlessly realign the spine to its natural position while regenerating tissue. At KKT, all the possible information about the spine is collected and captured via the most sophisticated technology and this helps us in identifying the signature frequency for each patient. We, then, utilise the unique signature sound frequencies to address core spinal distortions and disturbances. KKT is highly effective for treating a number of spine-related conditions including whiplash, herniated disks, neck and back pain, osteoarthritis, headaches and sciatica as well as many other conditions.

What business opportunity do you intend to provide to the franchisees?

We are seeking unit franchised clinics. These would be one machine centres. The machine is equipped to service 1,000 patients a year on a typical eight-hour shift. The business opportunity is huge and lucrative as it has provided phenomenal returns in business globally, and we expect the same in India. Our franchised partner can expect to break even in 2 or 2.5 years. But, it will depend on the number of hours and shifts and the centre's performance.

We, initially, plan to target high street commercial properties in metros with around 2,000 sq.ft area and an initial investment of Rs 5-6 crore.

How would you maintain standardisation of operations at your franchised centres? What kind of training and support would you provide to the franchisees to carry the day-to-day operations?

All our processes are computerised and backed by the most sophisticated technology. Moreover, we have our strict SOPs (standard operating procedures) in place coupled with regular audits. We also have an on-going quality management services (QMS). Most importantly, we educate the franchisee well as this would help him in his business.

KKT staff would visit the centres on a periodic as well as need basis. The training facility would be at Mumbai as well as at the location (centre). Marketing collaterals etc. will be taken care of by the master franchisor.

By this year-end, how many clinics are you planning to open in India and which cities are you targeting?

We are targeting four more centres and the target cities, essentially, would be Pune, Goa, Ahemdabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

How many clinics do you have internationally? How many clinics you will be opening by FY 2010-11?

Globally, we have 15 franchised centres in countries like China, Taiwan, Germany, UAE, Jordan, Riyadh and Canada. And, we are seeking to open another 10 centres in a year.
