Riding high on a strong Dussehra weekend, multiplex giant PVR INOX Ltd is gearing up for a blockbuster festive season, with cinema occupancy crossing 50% and over 8.5 lakh moviegoers visiting theatres during the holiday period.
The Dussehra break, which coincided with Gandhi Jayanti this year, delivered a much-needed boost to footfalls, signaling a resurgence in theatrical viewing habits across urban and regional markets.
“This festive season, our theatres are alive with the energy of audiences across India,” said Gautam Dutta, CEO – Revenue & Operations, PVR INOX Ltd. “With a strong Q2 performance behind us and a solid lineup of upcoming releases, we are poised for an exciting season ahead.”
The cinema chain attributed its positive performance to a diverse slate of films appealing to a wide demographic. Alongside anticipated Bollywood and Hollywood releases such as Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, Jolly LLB, and One Battle After Another, regional cinema has played a significant role in driving footfalls.
“Titles like Idli Kadai (Tamil/Telugu), Maria (Tamil), Vada Pav (Marathi), and Nikka Zaildar 4 (Punjabi) are making a strong impact at the box office, reflecting the richness and diversity of India's cultural storytelling,” the company said in a statement.
PVR INOX currently operates 1,757 screens across 353 properties in 111 cities in India and Sri Lanka, positioning it as the country’s largest multiplex operator.
With Diwali, Christmas, and other major festivals still ahead, the exhibitor is optimistic about sustained growth in cinema attendance through the final quarter of 2025.
