To ensure rapid development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure, Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy chaired an inter-ministerial coordination meeting. Senior officials from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and Ministry of Heavy Industries participated in the meeting.
The meeting was held to review progress and strategize next steps for the PM E-Drive scheme, launched under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme aims to build a nationwide EV-friendly ecosystem to reduce India’s dependence on fossil fuels and promote clean transportation.
Approved in September 2024, the scheme has earmarked ₹10,900 crore over two years to accelerate the adoption of electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, e-buses, and other emerging EV segments. It also targets the installation of approximately 72,000 public EV charging stations across the country.
Minister Kumaraswamy said,“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is becoming a global model for sustainable transportation. The PM E-Drive scheme is a transformative initiative that will provide our citizens with clean, affordable, and convenient mobility options. We are not just building infrastructure; we are laying the foundation for energy security and green economic growth.”
This scheme marks a significant step towards creating a strong, accessible, and future-ready EV ecosystem, guiding India towards a greener future.
