The Uttar Pradesh government has unveiled an ambitious plan to transform Kanpur into a leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing hub. Under the ‘Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision – 2030,’ the project will see an investment of ₹700 crore. The Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) will develop a state-of-the-art EV park across 500 acres near Bhimsen, strategically located along the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). The project will follow the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
According to the official statement, the initiative aims to position Kanpur as a vital part of India’s growing EV ecosystem by strengthening the local supply chain and promoting indigenous manufacturing. The park will house production units for electric motors, chassis, steel components, and lithium-ion cells, along with assembly plants for batteries, chargers, controllers, and other essential electronic parts.
A dedicated Research and Development (R&D) center will play a key role in the project, focusing on innovation and the advancement of cutting-edge EV technologies. This center is expected to contribute significantly to both regional growth and global EV innovation.
The state government is also planning to develop an integrated EV components cluster within the park to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs), startups, and local entrepreneurs, encouraging their participation in the EV value chain. Officials noted that the park’s proximity to the DFC will provide strong logistical advantages, ensuring smooth transportation of raw materials and finished products. The project is expected to create substantial employment opportunities, foster entrepreneurship, and contribute to the overall economic growth of Uttar Pradesh.
