Hero MotoCorp is set to enter India’s electric motorcycle segment with the planned launch of two new models next year, marking the company’s first major move into electric motorcycles.
The upcoming portfolio will include Project Ubex, an urban focused electric motorcycle aimed at performance, acceleration and everyday city riding. The second model, VXZ, is being developed as a high performance adventure motorcycle in collaboration with US based Zero Motorcycles.
Hero MotoCorp CEO Harshavardhan Chitale said the company plans to have a range of motorcycles in the market ahead of Delhi’s proposed ban on the sale of internal combustion engine two wheelers from April 2028.
The planned launches come as India’s electric two wheeler market continues to gain momentum. Electric two wheeler registrations rose 85% year on year to 1.91 lakh units in July 2026, reflecting growing consumer adoption of electric mobility.
With the introduction of electric motorcycles, Hero MotoCorp is looking to broaden its electric vehicle portfolio and participate in a segment that has so far been dominated by electric scooters.
The company’s entry also signals growing competition in India’s electric motorcycle market, as established two wheeler manufacturers increasingly expand beyond electric scooters and explore performance oriented electric mobility.
