Harajuku Tokyo Cafe has expanded its Mumbai presence with the opening of its largest outlet at Sky City Mall in Borivali. The launch also marks the introduction of Harajuku Bakehouse at the mall, extending the brand’s Japanese-inspired food, beverages and desserts offering to the western suburbs.

With its first Mumbai outlet at Jio World Drive in BKC, the brand is continuing to develop its Fun Dine concept. Each location takes inspiration from a different Japanese neighbourhood, with the Borivali outlet themed around Ikebukuro, a Tokyo district known for its anime culture, gaming arcades and bustling shopping streets.

The new outlet features Japanese street-style signage, urban-inspired interiors and an IKEBUS-inspired bar modelled on Ikebukuro’s iconic red bus. An owl motif, associated with the district, is incorporated throughout the space, while the Tokyo Matrix offers Harajuku merchandise and collectibles. The outlet also introduces an experimental drinks menu featuring sake, soju and cocktails inspired by Japanese cuisine. Options include ramen-inspired and sushi-inspired cocktails, alongside interactive bar experiences where guests can participate in games with bartenders.

On the food front, the menu retains popular choices such as the Spicy Avocado Cream Cheese Roll and Kara Miso Ramen, while adding new dishes including Miso Carbonara Udon, taquitos and a wider selection of bento bowls. The Kaiten Clash conveyor belt experience, previously available for unlimited weekday lunches, now operates throughout the week. Mystery Drops add another element to the experience, with surprise dishes appearing on the conveyor belt at four scheduled times during the day.

Harajuku Bakehouse complements the cafe with Japanese-inspired desserts, Jiggly Pancakes, artisanal bakes and matcha beverages. While Harajuku Tokyo Cafe centres on interactive dining and entertainment, the Bakehouse offers a more relaxed setting for desserts and bakery products.

On the opening of the newest outpost, Gaurav Kanwar, Founder & CEO, Harajuku Tokyo Cafe shares “Our vision is to bring the Harajuku Tokyo Cafe experience to a larger audience, and expanding to Borivali is a big step in that direction. With our largest outlet yet at Sky City Mall, Borivali, we are introducing Ikebukuro, a new district within the Harajuku Tokyo Cafe universe. The concept allows us to bring together different facets of Japanese-inspired dining and retail in one space, while taking the overall experience up a notch.

He further adds, “Borivali is an exciting market with a distinct audience, and we have thoughtfully adapted our menu and offerings to suit local preferences while retaining the essence of Harajuku. From a more evolved food and beverage offering to an elevated bar programme, this outlet represents an exciting new direction for the brand and how we continue to engage with our guests”

The Borivali outlet builds on Harajuku Tokyo Cafe’s concept of drawing inspiration from Japanese neighbourhoods, pairing distinctive interiors with evolving food and beverage offerings.
