Delhi Transport and Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, marking 100 days in office, announced on Friday that the city will see the induction of more than 4,000 electric buses by the end of this year. Additionally, he revealed plans to launch a yoga-based program to manage diabetes in the coming months.
“Pollution is a top priority for our government, and all departments are working together to combat it. From the transport department, we are committed to replacing aging CNG buses with electric vehicles,” said Singh. He emphasized that the introduction of electric buses will significantly improve both pollution levels and public connectivity, especially in congested areas.
Highlighting health sector achievements, the Minister spoke about the implementation of schemes like Pradhan Mantri Vaya Vandana Yojana (PMVVY) for senior citizens, Ayushman Mandir, and Ayushman Card distribution. He noted that nearly 2.31 lakh people have been issued health cards so far.
He also criticized the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging it blocked central schemes like Ayushman Bharat. “We have now reached out to people through door-to-door campaigns to ensure benefits reach the intended recipients,” he said.
Singh further accused the former AAP administration of indulging in publicity rather than governance, citing irregularities in areas such as water supply, roadworks, Yamuna cleaning, transportation, and drug procurement in hospitals. He claimed that only five medical superintendents were managing the major hospitals in the entire city under the previous regime.
Calling diabetes a common yet critical health issue, Singh announced the upcoming launch of the “Diabetes-Plus with Yoga” initiative. He also stressed the government’s focus on ensuring smooth operations of free dialysis centers across Delhi.
