Carrefour Targets 50 India Stores in Three Years via Apparel Group Deal
As part of the tie-up, the retail chain plans to open 50 stores, with an initial focus on building the brand's presence in North India through a mix of organic expansion and acquisitions.

French retail giant Carrefour has returned to the Indian market through a partnership with the Apparel Group, aiming to capitalise on the country's fast-growing organised retail sector, fuelled by rising consumer aspirations and rapid urbanisation. As part of the tie-up, the retail chain plans to open 50 stores, with an initial focus on building the brand's presence in North India through a mix of organic expansion and acquisitions.

The company, which had earlier operated in India under the cash-and-carry model, exited the market in 2014 as part of a broader strategy to withdraw from underperforming international operations.

Marking its first footprint in the country, Carrefour has launched its debut store at H&S Mall in Greater Noida.

Amidst the rapid rise of quick-commerce and e-commerce, the French retail giant's entry into India comes at a particularly competitive moment for the country's shopping scene.

Shoppers can expect a wide range of locally sourced offerings from the retail chain, spanning fresh produce, groceries, bakery items, household essentials and personal care, alongside fashion and accessories.
