BorgWarner has announced that it has secured a major contract from a leading global automobile manufacturer to supply 400-volt high-voltage coolant heaters (HVCH) for a range of plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) platforms. The contract includes mid-size pickup trucks, SUVs, and minivans, with production expected to begin in 2027. This marks BorgWarner’s largest HVCH contract in North America based on projected volumes.
BorgWarner’s 400V HVCH features a compact and flexible design that allows easy integration into a wide variety of vehicles without requiring platform modifications. The system delivers thermal power density of up to 10 kW using brazed aluminum fin technology.
Dr. Volker Weng, Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and General Manager of Turbos and Thermal Technologies, said:
“We have been collaborating with this global OEM on multiple projects and are excited to expand our partnership. Our HVCH technology is not only more robust, but it also enables cost efficiencies without altering the overall vehicle architecture.”
The HVCH system ensures reliable heating performance regardless of ambient temperatures, efficiently warming both the cabin and battery. This enhances charging speed, battery life, performance, durability, and driving range.
With a legacy of over 130 years in mobility innovation, BorgWarner continues to deliver sustainable technology solutions for the evolving automotive industry.
