The campaign was designed as a real-world take on guerrilla marketing, replacing conventional launch advertising with an interactive street activation that encouraged people to engage with the brand organically.

After days of sparking curiosity across Delhi, the mystery behind a bright orange gorilla roaming the city's streets has finally been solved. The unusual campaign was orchestrated by contemporary streetwear brand Banana Club as part of its strategy to announce the opening of its first store in the national capital on July 19.

The mascot appeared at bustling markets, popular hangout spots and iconic landmarks, carrying bananas and drawing crowds wherever it went. Photos and videos of the gorilla quickly spread across Instagram Reels, Stories and WhatsApp, fuelling speculation about the purpose behind the unusual sightings.

The campaign was designed as a real-world take on guerrilla marketing, replacing conventional launch advertising with an interactive street activation that encouraged people to engage with the brand organically. Rather than relying on billboards or digital promotions, Banana Club used surprise, humour and social sharing to generate awareness ahead of its retail debut.

The gorilla mascot also distributed bananas along with specially designed invitation envelopes, inviting people to the store launch on July 19. Each invitation unveiled the brand's inaugural offer, allowing shoppers to purchase any product and buy a second shirt for ₹1.

The initiative reflects a growing trend among direct-to-consumer and lifestyle brands that are increasingly turning to experiential marketing to build brand recall and drive footfalls. By creating a shareable offline experience, Banana Club sought to generate conversations that extended well beyond the streets and onto social media.

With its first Delhi outlet set to open this week, the brand is positioning the launch as more than a store opening, aiming instead to establish an early connection with the city's streetwear community through memorable, experience-led engagement.
