The Bengal government in a latest move to boost electronics manufacturing in the state has identified a 70-acre plot in Naihati (North 24-Parganas) to set up electronics manufacturing clusters. The government is also looking to earmark land for a similar facility at Falta. Further, the state government will provide a detailed project report in three months and appoint a consultant during the period.
The central government will be providing financial assistance for the project as per a scheme that plans to build 200 such clusters in India.
According to the new IT policy of the state government, 15 such clusters in five years will be built through funds from centre or state government.
Going by the figures of central department of electronics and information technology, the demand for hardware products will grow to $400 billion in 2020 from $45 billion in 2009. However, production is projected to rise to only $104 billion by 2020, which will create a demand-supply mismatch of $296 billion.
The union government will fund a special purpose vehicle to implement the project. Support will be given for about 50 per cent of the project cost of up to Rs 50 crore for every 100 acres for greenfield projects. For brownfield clusters, the assistance will be restricted to 75 per cent of the project cost of up to Rs 50 crore.
